A temporary pedestrian bridge will be built across Macquarie St to facilitate the safe movement of participants for the Sydney Marathon event on the weekend of 30-31 August.

Macquarie St will be closed between Bridge St and Bent St to allow for the installation and then removal of the temporary bridge. Once installed the bridge will have a height clearance of 5.2m.

Overnight full and/or lane closures will be in place at the following times:

• Fri 22 Aug: Full closure from 11pm - 7am
• Sat 23 Aug: One of two lanes will be closed in both directions from 11pm – 7am
• Sun 31 Aug: Full closure from 6pm – 4am
• Mon 1 Sep: Northbound lanes will be closed from 10pm - 2am

When full closures are in place motorists will be detoured via Bridge St, Phillip St and Bent St.

Some parking spaces will be removed from Macquarie St during bridge installation and removal.

Changes to traffic conditions will be in place on the Sydney Harbour Bridge at various times while the bridge and other infrastructure are being upgraded and maintained. These changes include a combination of lane closures and speed reductions.

Access to Cahill Exp over Circular Quay southbound may not be available at times. Motorists can detour via the city using Grosvenor St, Bridge St, and Macquarie St for access to the Eastern Suburbs and airport.

Sydney Marathon Running Show expo at ICC Sydney

Around 100,000 people are expected to attend the Ferragosto Italian Street Festival in Five Dock on Sunday, from 10am to 5pm.

Road closures and special event clearway parking restrictions will be in place for the festival.

• Great North Rd will be closed between Queens Rd and Lyons Rd from 3am until 11pm. Surrounding local streets off Great North Rd will also be closed.
• Motorists will be diverted around the closure via Lyons Rd, Ingham Ave, Fairlight St, Queens Rd and Harris Rd.
• Some roads will close between 6am and 6pm with local resident access permitted

Up to 5,500 participants will take part in the annual Beach2Beach Charity Fun Run and Festival from Dee Why to Newport on Sunday 24 August. Events start from 6.30am and will finish at around 12.30pm at Newport Beach.

Road closures will be in place between 5.30am and 12.30pm along the course to safely facilitate the event. Access for local residents will be maintained when safe to do so after runners have safely passed by along the course, and roads will start to progressively reopen from 7.30am

• Dee Why/Freshwater between 5.30am and 8.30am: From 5.30am, sections of Boronia Street, Griffin Road, The Strand and Pacific Parade will be closed until 7.30am; and sections of Carrington Parade, Lumsdaine Drive, Griffin Road, Headland Road, Ozone Parade and other local streets will be closed until 8.30am. From 6.20am to 8.30am sections of Oaks Avenue will be closed.
• Collaroy from 6am to 9.30am: Sections of Anzac Avenue, Beach Road and Florence Avenue will be closed.
• Narrabeen/Warriewood from 6.30am to 10.30am: Narrabeen Park Parade southbound lanes will be closed between Cook Terrace (Mona Vale) and Sydney Road. One-way traffic northbound only will be maintained. Narrabeen Park Parade will be closed in both directions between Sydney Road and Malcolm Street. Peal Place and Bruce Street will be under managed access for residents via Narrabeen Park Parade northbound. A sections of Sydney Road and Melbourne Avenue will also be closed.  
• Mona Vale between 7am and 12pm: Grandview Parade between Barrenjoey Road and Orana Road will be closed eastbound from 7.30am until 12pm, while sections of Surfview Road, Orana Road and Bassett Street will be closed between 7am and 11am.  
• Newport from 7.30am to 12.30pm: Sections of Ross Street, Palm Road and Myola Road around the beach will be closed. 

Southbound lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will also be in place on sections of Barrenjoey Road and Pittwater Road while the event takes place.

Special event clearways will be in place from 4am to 12pm on the eastern side of Barrenjoey Road between Palm Road (Newport) and Grandview Parade (Mona Vale), and from 4am to 10am on the eastern side of Pittwater Road between Anzac Avenue (Collaroy) and Hawkesbury Avenue (Dee Why).

RAAF Richmond Airshow on Saturday and Sunday. Gates will open at 9am, with flying displays to be conducted from 11am to 4pm each day.

With up to 40,000 attendees expected each day over the weekend, heavy traffic is expected in Clarendon and surrounding suburbs approaching the airbase.

Motorists should allow extra travel time on roads including Hawkesbury Valley Way, Blacktown Rd, The Northern Rd and Richmond Rd.

Limited paid-parking will be available at Hawkesbury Showground (pre-purchased ticket required). Access to showground parking will be via Blacktown Rd only not Hawkesbury Valley Way due to the partial closure of Racecourse Rd for the event.

Road closures

• Racecourse Rd will be closed at Hawkesbury Valley Way and the Rail line crossing from 6am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday for the safety of crowds getting to and from the event via the train station.
• Sections of Hobart St and Percival St surrounding the airbase will also be closed between 6.30am and 5pm each day.

Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect on Hawkesbury Valley Way, Dight St and Hobart St surrounding the airbase from 7am to 6pm each day.

The Sydney Marathon event is taking place over two days this year, Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August.

On Saturday the 5km Mini Marathon will see 10,000 participants run through the Sydney CBD and The Domain.

Roads will be closed and clearways will be in effect between 2am and 10am.

Road closures:

• 2am – 10am: Macquarie St between Bridge St and Bent St, and southbound from Albert St to Bridge St.
• 4am – 10am: Macquarie St between the Sydney Opera House roundabout and Bridge St, Albert St, and Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Rd in the Royal Botanic Garden & The Domain.
• 5am – 10am: Macquarie St and College St from Bent St to Park St, and the Cahill Expressway on and off ramp to Macquarie St will close. The Cycleway on College St between Park St and Prince Albert Rd will also close from 5am to 10am.
• No access to Macquarie St from the Cahill Expressway, motorists should use the Grosvenor St or York St off ramps from the Harbour Bridge instead.
• 6.30am – 9.30am: St Mary’s Rd, Hospital Rd and Shakespeare Place. Two-way access maintained to Hospital Rd via Shakespeare Place.

• NRL and NRLW: Wests Tigers v Dragons (NRLW) and Sea Eagles (NRL) at Allianz Stadium. Women's game kick off at 11.50am. Men's game kick-off at 2pm, full time at 3.50pm.
• AFL: Sydney Swans v Geelong Cats at the SCG. First bounce from 3.15pm, full time at 6pm.

Traffic delays are expected approaching Moore Park so motorists should allow extra travel time on roads including the Eastern Distributor, Moore Park Rd, Cleveland St, Anzac Pde and Lang Rd.

Major roads in North Sydney, the Sydney CBD, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Moore Park, Centennial Park and Kingsford will be closed between 2am and 4pm for Sydney Marathon 42km and 10km events on Sunday. 45,000 participants are expected to take part across the two courses with 35,000 taking part in the marathon alone.

Travel across the city will be limited with lengthy detours in place. Sydneysiders are urged to avoid non-essential travel where possible or allow plenty of extra travel time and expect trips to take longer than usual.

Key closure times by suburb area

• North Sydney closures between 2am and 12pm including sections of Miller St, Pacific Hwy.
• Sydney Harbour Bridge and Western Distributor closed 3am to 11am. Detour via Harbour Tunnel. Motorists from the Anzac Bridge will be diverted via Bathurst St. Access to the Harbour Tunnel northbound is via the Cross City Tunnel only.
• Cahill Expressway lanes 7 and 8 and Circular Quay Overpass closed 3am to 11.30am
• Sydney CBD, Circular Quay closures from 4am to 11.30am (Macquarie St closed until 4pm)
• Millers Point, King St Wharf, Barangaroo and The Rocks closures between 4am and 11am
• Pyrmont and Ultimo closures between 4am and 10.30am
• Sydney CBD east including Macquarie St and The Domain closures between 4am and 4pm (Park St closed 5am to 3pm)
• Sydney CBD, Darlinghurst to Moore Park closures including Oxford St from 4am to 3.30pm and Flinders St until 3pm
• Moore Park and Centennial Park closures from 5am to 3pm including parts of Moore Park Rd, Lang Rd and Anzac Pde

Detours:

Motorists will only be able to travel east/west across the course via the Cross City Tunnel which will be toll-free from 5am to 4.30pm or on surface roads via Gardeners Rd, Bunnerong Rd and Maroubra Rd in the South East. From 1pm motorists can also use Dacey Ave/Alison Rd to travel east or west across the course. The Eastern Distributor Anzac Pde entry and exit will be closed, however the Bondi Moore Park Rd exit will remain open this year.

Widespread special event clearway parking restrictions will also be in effect along and surrounding the course. Motorists and residents should check signs carefully on the day and on Saturday night as clearways come into effect from 12.01am Sunday morning. Some clearways in local areas will be in effect from 6am Saturday.
